The plot of The Smoke is based on a simple dramatic concept. Two guerrillas in Warsaw, stuck under the fire of a German sniper, desperately want to smoke. One of them suspects the other of hiding the last cigarette. The simple anecdote, set in war reality, gains deeper sense and meaning.
