In 1973 he graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. In 1982 he became an artist photographer at the Union of Polish Artist Photographers. From 1997 to 2005 he served as president of its Silesian District. In 1999 he received the PhD in film and photography at Lodz Film School, where he also received his habilitation in this discipline in 2005.
He worked, among others, as an engineer since 1973 at the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals in Gliwice, since 1975 as a studio manager at the Center for Design of Mining Machines in Gliwice, since 1981 in the National Publishing Agency in Warsaw as a head of the editorial. In 1982 he started working at the University of Silesia in Katowice as a university teacher and researcher. For one term he served as Deputy Dean for Program.
Since 1988 he programmed the Gallery of Photography of the Union of Polish Artist Photographers in the Silesian District, since 1993 he has been programming events at the Photography Gallery PUSTA in the Upper Silesian Cultural Centre with the current continuation in the Photography Gallery PUSTA cd. in Jaworzno, in the founded by himself Living Open Air Museum of Photography and the "School of viewing" – educational program in the field of photography.

He organized a series of international exhibitions called "Contacts" between 1989-1998. He participated in so-called "stream of elementary photography" in the 80. In 1982, he was given a silver badge for Distinguished in Regional Development of Katowice Voivodship. In 1989, received a prize of Rector of the III degree for achievements in academic research and teaching. In 2004 he received the Individual Award of Rector of the II degree, for scientific and artistic work. He was awarded the prize of the Union of Polish Artist Photographers for the promotion and protection of cultural heritage in particular for promoting the Silesian District in 2012.
