Andrzej Kowalczyk

Painter, stage designer. He studied geology at the University of Warsaw in 1962-1963. In 1971 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. In 1971-1994 he was employed in "Film Teams". Since 2007 he has been an assistant professor at the Faculty of Radio and Television, University of Silesia. He also teaches at the Lodz Film School and Warsaw Film School.

Immediately after graduation he was employed at the film "Potop" as an assistant set designer (1971-1973). His debut film was "Pasja" directed by Stanislaw Różewicz. He designed sets for more than 50 feature films and TV theater productions. He collaborated with such directors as Filip Bajon ("Aria dla atlety", "Wizja lokalna 1901", "Limuzyna Daimler Benz", "Magnat"), Wojciech Marczewski ("Klucznik", "Dreszcze”, “Ucieczka z kina Wolność”, „Weiser”), Piotr Szulkin, Olga Lipińska, Marek Piwowski, Jan Kidawa Błoński.

In 1990-2000 he worked mainly in advertising and designed about 150 television spots. He is a member of the Polish Filmmakers Association and the Polish Film Academy. In 1980 he received an award for stage design at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for the film "Wizja lokalna 1901" by Filip Bajon.
In 1985 he won an award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for "O-bi, O-ba. Koniec cywilizacji" by Piotr Szulkin.

He was nominated three times for the Polish Film Academy " Orły" for Best Stage Design – in 2002 for the film "Weiser" (dir. Wojciech Marczewski), in 2008 for the film "Wszystko będzie dobrze" (dir. Tomasz Wiszniewski) and in 2010 for the film "Popiełuszko. Wolność jest w nas"(dir. Rafał Wieczyński).
