Our two short feature films were awarded at the 53rd Edition of the Lubuskie Lato Film Festival!

🏆 Lena Jaworska and her film Pipsqueak won the Silver Cluster in the Short Feature Film Competition. The jury appreciated the direction and the sensitivity in portraying adolescence in a world between realism and magic.

🎬 Pipsqueak | directed by Lena Jaworska | cinematography by Paweł Kozak | production management by Kamil Dominik Warszawski | produced in 2024.

🏆 In the same competition, Dancing on the clouds by Michał Mieszczyk was also awarded. It received a Distinction for its credible portrayal of a naturalistic world with a ray of hope.

🎬 Dancing on the clouds | directed by Michał Mieszczyk | cinematography by Igor Połaniewicz | production management by Edyta Bełza & Yana Honcharenko | produced in 2023.

Furthermore, we are very pleased with the Bronze Cluster award in the Main Feature Film Competition, won by our alumnus and current lecturer Paweł Maślona for his film Kos. The jury's justification highlighted the unconventional treatment of Polish history and the intelligent marriage of original form with genre cinema. 👏

Congratulations to all the awarded films; each one deserves applause. We wish you continued success! 👏

Marta Z. Nowak's Burnout had its international premiere last Friday at FEST – New Directors New Films Festival in Portugal. The 20th edition of the festival took place from June 24 to July 1, 2024.

It's great to be in carefully selected international company, so we warmly congratulate on this important qualification for the official festival selection. We wish the entire team success in gaining more memorable film festival experiences!

BURNOUT | directed by Marta Z. Nowak | cinematography by Jakub Stoszek | production management by Gabriela Fita, Tomasz Widera & Wiktoria Goczoł | produced by the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School of the University of Silesia, 2024.

A young woman experiences unsettling visions while working. When her new skill becomes an issue, she tries to regain control over her life in a similarly unsettling way.

The creation of the film and Marta's trip to Portugal for the premiere would not have been possible without the support of the Polish Film Institute, which initially funded the film and subsequently provided financial assistance for our student's journey to the festival.

Thank you!

Badylok, directed by Karolina Kłapkowska

Karolina Kłapkowska, a graduate of the Cinematography program and currently a PhD student, created several works during her studies at the K. Kieślowski Film School, including the short film "Badylok," which won awards at several Polish festivals (including the Węgiel Film Festival).

We recommend reading a recently conducted interview with the director, initiated and hosted by Samanta Stochla, a Referent in the Organizational Office – Educational Support.

The interview is titled I Try to Listen to People: Women in the World of Film, below is a brief excerpt, with a link to the full material at the end.

We encourage you to read it!

Samanta Stochla: When I go through the end credits of films, your name appears in many roles: stills, lighting, cinematography collaboration, directing, scriptwriting, camera work, editing, and even music videos. Is there anything you don’t do in film production?

Karolina Kłapkowska: The school thoroughly prepares one for the profession of a cinematographer, but it is also important to understand each role within the various departments on a film set. This skill greatly aids in later work on the script and in developing the overall vision of the film, giving confidence in shaping the film material. I have also worked on music videos, and I believe that each experience is a step forward. Music has the ability to evoke certain images in a person's consciousness. The question then becomes how to translate what has been "triggered" into a visually closed form, which is the language of film.
