Under the Volcano, directed by Damian Kocur, has been selected as Poland's entry for the 2025 Oscars in the category of Best International Feature Film!

The world premiere of the film took place at the 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024.

A selection committee chaired by Paweł Pawlikowski, which included members such as Ewa Braun, Krystyna Janda, Sławomir Idziak, and Tomasz Kolankiewicz, chose Under the Volcano, directed by Damian Kocur—a graduate of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice—from among 10 submitted productions.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will be held during the night of March 2-3, 2025.

The film tells the story of a young Ukrainian family who, due to the outbreak of war, are unable to return from their vacation in Tenerife to Kyiv. Overnight, they go from being tourists to becoming refugees.

The film will be screened at the opening ceremony of the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia!

At the 49th PFF in the Short Film Competition, you’ll also be able to see student-directed projects, our productions:

🎬 Hedgehog's Dilemma | dir. Mateusz Rybiński

🎬 If I Had Balls | dir. Karolina Belka

🎬 The body is getting cold | dir. Przemysław Kopacz

🎬 Tennis Mortis | dir. Michał Łukowicz

🎬 Pipsqueak | dir. Lena Jaworska

Congratulations to all the creators, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the Gdynia Festival and next year’s Oscars! 🏆
