The premiere of the book by Prof. Dariusz Pawelec, PhD – "The Art (of) Multicamera Production" (Polish: „Sztuka (w) realizacji wielokamerowej”)

25.03.2025

We are pleased to announce the release of the book "The Art (of) Multicamera Production" by Prof. Dariusz Pawelec, PhD, published by the University of Silesia Press.

Prof. Dariusz Pawelec, PhD television producer, camera operator, director of documentary forms, and lighting director for theatrical and operatic performances.

Below is an excerpt from the book:

"Just a few years ago, this book would have been titled The Art (of) Television Production. In recent years—and especially during the pandemic—there has been an extraordinary acceleration in the development and accessibility of equipment for multicamera production. One no longer needs a broadcast truck, professional cameras, or a huge budget to produce a multicamera concert or stream a live performance from a theater.

Additionally, the ability to ‘distribute’ content via the internet has made it possible to reach an audience potentially larger than that of traditional television.

Unfortunately, many productions have revealed a significant gap between technical possibilities and the practical skills of those taking on multicamera projects. This isn’t surprising, as there are no publications on the subject in Poland, and multicamera production could previously be learned only in film schools or through hands-on experience in television stations. Available online tutorials tend to offer fragmented knowledge and often fail to convey the essence of multicamera production from a creative standpoint.

This book views television directors, vision mixers, lighting designers, and camera operators as professionals working at the intersection of art and technology—where the artistic component is essential. On the other hand, artistry can truly be found only in certain types of multicamera productions, especially where the ‘material’ is art itself, such as in theater, music, or ballet. Hence the title The Art (of) Multicamera Production."

This is the first publication in Poland dedicated not only to the technical side of production but also to its artistic dimension. It is intended for professionals, students, and anyone who seeks not just to record events, but to creatively tell stories through images.
