On March 22, 2024, the Kosmos Cinema hosted a preview showing of the latest documentary film directed by our lecturer – Dr. Dagmara Drzazga, Prof. at the University of Silesia. We return with a short photo report to at least slightly convey the atmosphere prevailing in the cinema hall at that time. We would like to thank all the guests and congratulate all the creators!

The film "Zagłębie. MEMORY" tells the story of the extermination of the Jewish population in the Zagłębie region during World War II. The documentary's creators follow a group from the World Union of Zagłębie Jews from Israel, Canada, and the United States, who came to Poland to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the ghettos in Będzin and Sosnowiec. The film utilizes unknown survivor accounts and many unique archival materials, both radio and photographic.

After the screening, there was a discussion with the film's heroes and some of its creators. Among those present was Danuta Niciarz, who remembers the extermination of the Jewish population during the war in Zagłębie.

The production team, in addition to two lecturers from the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia - Dagmara Drzazga (script, director) and Krystyna Nowojska (producer), also included: Witold Kornaś, Michał Sławiński, and Bartosz Dominik (cinematography), Jakub Laki Jędras (aerial photography), Andrzej Piwowarczyk (sound), and Beata Widuch (editing and sound design).

The production was made by TVP SA Branch in Katowice for TVP Historia, 2024. The documentary was co-financed by the University of Silesia's Research Excellence Initiative.
