Kieślowski Film School student Gracjana Piechula has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the Short Film Competition at the Neisse Film Festival for her film, "Out of Water."

The festival is a cooperative effort between film enthusiasts from Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The international jury in the Polish-German-Czech alliance expressed their high regards for our student's work in these words: "[...] the decision was not easy for us. In addition to the main prize, we would like to distinguish [...] Children and Fish - for a sensitive, authentic, and funny portrait of the relationship between a teenager and her deaf father. Excellent actors and precise direction gave birth to a light yet powerful 'little big' film."

We present a set of photos taken by students of the Kieślowski Film School during their stay at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which present the backstage of this prestigious film event.

Thanks to the financial support from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the University of Silesia and the private funds of our lecturer, Dr. Anna Huth, also this year our students had the opportunity to participate in this extraordinary event.

The photos that we present in the gallery were prepared by Bartosz Gaczyński and Jakub Stoszek, students of Cinematography and Photography course, and their authors are also Alicja Nowicka, Marta Nowak, Karolina Belka, Maria Kawalec, Mateusz Kruk and Daniel Stopa.

The works present various aspects of the festival, from the red carpet and the camera flashes, to the emotions and joy of the guests present at the festival. These unforgettable experiences were immortalized by talented students who shared their artistic perspective on the extraordinary atmosphere of Cannes.

Our students never fail to amaze us with their achievements!

On Saturday evening, the International Jury of the Krakow Film Festival presented awards to some of the best films screened during the Krakow Film Festival throughout the week.

The Golden Hobby-Horse for the director of the best documentary film went to Mateusz Pietrak for his documentary, "Basia: Three Short Stories." Our student, Paweł Kozak, worked as the cinematographer in this film. In addition, the film's editor, Olga Bejm, a student of the Łódź Film School, received the President of the Polish Filmmakers Association award for the best film editing.

An honorable mention in the Polish Competition at this year's festival went to a short documentary, "Wyraj," a Polish-Ukrainian co-production, directed by our students, Jakub Stoszek and Magdalena Mistygacz. The film was produced by Jakub Orłoś, also a student at the Kieślowski Film School.

The 29th Palm Springs International ShortFest will soon get underway on June 20th, and we're excited to inform you that Marta Z. Nowak's "Afonia" is one of the short films that qualified for this year's festival.

We would like to offer our sincere congratulations on the selection. We also wish Nowak the best of luck with her future prospects.

The festival will be held at Camelot Theatres from June 20th to June 26th. The event will see an impressive selection of 299 films from 65 countries, including 53 world premieres, 10 international premieres, 33 North American premieres, and 18 American premieres. One of the impressive features is that the films were selected from over 6,000 submissions.

At the ongoing Krakow Film Festival, Andrzej Fidyk, acclaimed for his documentaries exploring different cultures around the world, will feature an exhibition of photographs from his recent album "Dziwny koniec XX wieku" ("A Strange End of the Twentieth Century").

Prof. Fidyk, who is also a lecturer at our film school, took these photographs while working on the production of five films, all of which took place in different countries during the 1990s. On display are works made while shooting for these notable documentaries: "Rosyjski striptiz" (The Russian Striptease), "Carnaval – największe party świata" (Carnaval-The Biggest Party in the World), "Dojenie wielbłąda" (East of Eastenders), "Kiniarze z Kalkuty" (Battu's Bioscope), and "Taniec trzcin" (Umhlanga, Reed Dance in Swaziland). Fidyk is also the chairman of the jury for the International Documentary Competition at the Krakow Film Festival.
