Photo Anna Bobrowska / Polish Film Festival in Gdynia

The Grand Prize of the 47. Polish Film Festival in Gdynia "Golden Lions" for the best film went to our graduate of film directing Agnieszka Smoczyńska and the producer of the film "The Silent Twins" Klaudia Śmieja - Rostworowska (graduate of film production) and Ewa Puszczyńska.

"Platinum Lions", the lifetime achievement award funded by the Polish Filmmakers Association, was collected by our lecturer - director Filip Bajon.

Our lecturer, Beata Dzianowicz, received an individual award for a directing debut or a second film for the film "Shreds" during the closing gala of the 47. Polish Film Festival.

The day before, during the Young Gala on Friday, September 16, the winners of the Short Films Competition and the winners of this year's non-statutory awards were announced. Among the winners were also our students, graduates and lecturers.

The Jury of the Short Films Competition:

  • Ewa Puszczyńska - Chairwoman
  • Maria Dębska
  • Beata Walentowska

It awarded a Special Prize - a financial award in the amount of PLN 10,000. PLN for the film "Followers. Live Shooting” dir. Jakub Radej (our student of film directing). The film was produced at the Munk Studio.

Distinction - financial award in the amount of PLN 5000 PLN received the film "Quiver" (2022), dir. Joanna Różniak. The film "Quiver" was produced at the Kieslowski Film School of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

The award for the best cinematographer in the Short Film Competition awarded by the Heliograf company went to Daniel Le Hai (student of cinematography) for the film "Funeralia" (2022), dir. Bartłomiej Błaszczyński. The film "Funeralia" was produced at the Kieslowski Film School.

After the success in Venice, further awards went to the full-length debut "Bread and Salt" by our graduate Damian Kocur:

  • Journalists Award granted by accredited journalists at the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia
  •  Don Kichot - Award of the Polish Federation of Film Discussion Clubs
  • Youth Jury Prize for the Best Film in the Main Competition

Awarded with Golden Lions "The Silent Twins", dir. Agnieszka Smoczyńska received the Studio Cinemas Association Award during the Young Gala.

Our lecturer, Beata Dzianowicz, during the Young Gala also received the Onet Award - DISCOVERY of the Polish Film Festival for the film "Shreds".

A student of directing at the Kieślowski Film School - Karol Ulman won the first prize, PLN 8,000 funded by the Polish Filmmakers Association and the production of the film in the Competition for the script of a short film inspired by Jerzy Kawalerowicz's "Night Train" for the script of the film "Ghosts".

The winners of the Golden and Silver Lions, as well as the winners of individual awards in the Main Competition of the 47. Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, were announced at a gala on September 17, 2022.

Workshop "Paper, photos, scissors. Creating a collage” led by Anna Ryń - a student of cinematography at the Kieslowski Film School in Katowice, as part of the project "New Town. New vision" implemented at the City Museum in Tychy were nominated for the educational Oscars "Sunflowers 2022" for the most developmental initiative for children in Silesia. The workshop was held in January and March 2022. The winners of the "Sunflowers 2022" award will be announced on September 16, 2022, at 6.30 pm at the seat of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice during the award ceremony.

During the workshop "Paper, photos, scissors. Creating a collage" the youngest learned what a collage is and tried their hand at this field, using many different art techniques. The starting point were archival photographs from the collection of the City Museum in Tychy. The photos were used to create drawings and collages that turned black and white reality into a colorful kingdom of children.

Sunflowers/Sloneczniki is a competition for the most developmental initiative for children up to 14 years of age, organized by the CzasDzieci.pl portal - a long-term intermediary between places of education and culture and their parents.

Lecturer at the Kieślowski Film School, prof. UŚ dr hab. Dagmara Drzazga was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, for outstanding contributions to the development of independent journalism, for achievements in journalistic work and social activity. The ceremony took place at the Journalist's House in Warsaw.

The Cross of Merit is awarded to people who have contributed to the state or citizens through their public activity and charity.

Damian Kocur's feature fiction debut "Bread and Salt" with cinematography by Tomasz Woźniczka received the Special Jury Prize of the Orizzonti competition at the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

A film made by graduates of the Cinematography Course of Kieslowski Film School in Katowice was appreciated by the international jury chaired by the Spanish director Isabel Coixet.

"Bread and Salt" is a story about a young pianist, a student of the Warsaw University of Music, who returns to his hometown on vacation, where his mother, younger brother and friends from the neighborhood are waiting for him.

The film "Bread and Salt" was made at the Munk Studio as part of the Sixty Minutes program funded by the Polish Filmmakers Association with the support of CANAL + Polska and the Polish Film Institute.

The winners of the 79th Venice International Film Festival were announced at a gala on September 10, 2022.

Until November 25, 2022 you can still take part in the 12th Outdoor Photography Festival in Żory, which grew out of the tradition of the Żory Open-Air Photography Festival organized since 2010. At the invitation of the organizers of the Festival, Żory is visited by authors specializing in various types of photography. Their speeches in a small festival circle constitute responses and comments on leading topics.

The festival includes screenings of short films by students of Cinematography Course at the Kieslowski Film School and there will be a multimedia exhibition "Memoria MMXXII" by prof. Janusz Musiał.

The screening of short films will take place on September 16 at 17.00 at the City Museum in Żory. Jan Barszczewski ("La Repasseuse", "Enemy"), Julia Dziworska ("Rakietera", "Windows"), Filip Dziworski ("Rickshaw"), Katarzyna Hordowicz ("Breakdown Motel"), Karolina Monwid-Olechnowicz ( "Flora") and Bartosz Toboła ("Test").

Opening of the exhibition "Memoria MMXXII" by prof. Janusz Musiał will be held on September 16 at 6.00 p.m. at the City Museum in Żory. Memoria MMXXII is a project whose author attempts to examine the visual layer of memory, in thematizing the issues of remembering in the context of personal, local and artistic memory, using new media: photography, moving image art, film, animation, sound. The exhibition will last until October 31.
