We know the winners of the 3rd edition of the Freedom of Research competition as part of the Research Excellence Initiative, among whom there were as many as six lecturers from the Kieślowski Film School in Katowice!

Prof. Dagmara Drzazga received funding in the amount of PLN 19,100, these funds are intended to support the implementation of research activities on the following topics: Documentary work entitled "A Mother's Tale". Life of the Jewish population in Zagłębie in the interwar period and its Holocaust during World War II. Uprising in the Będzin Ghetto inspired by the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in April 1943. The trauma of Holocaust survivors.

Prof. Andrzej Fidyk received funding in the amount of PLN 10,000, intended to be used to carry out a research activity with the subject: Exhibition of photographic works "Strange end of the 20th century”.

Anna Huth, PhD, received a grant of PLN 20,000 to carry out a research activity on the subject: Production of the feature-length documentary "Until the wedding" directed by Daniel Stopa

Prof. Rafał Milach received funding in the amount of PLN 20,000 to enable the implementation of research activities on the subject: Development of audiovisual and text material on the mass migration of civilians (9.4 million people crossed the border with Poland) as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Prof. Janusz Musiał received funding in the amount of PLN 20,000, aimed at contributing to the implementation of a research activity on the subject: International exhibition of art works Archeology of new media MMXXIII.

Prof. Adam Sikora received funding in the amount of PLN 10,000 to support the implementation of a research activity on the subject: Publication entitled "Towards Osiris".

The aim of the project organized as part of the Research Excellence Initiative is to improve the conditions for the scientific development of employees, build high-quality scientific achievements, disseminate and commercialize knowledge, and consequently increase the impact of the university's scientific activity on the development of world science.

Scientists could apply for co-financing of research activities in the amount of up to PLN 10,000, and in the case of international cooperation - up to PLN 20,000. Congratulations to all winners and good luck!

Short films of students of the Kieślowski Film School were appreciated during the third edition of LJMU MA Short Film Fest, the university film festival in Liverpool, taking place on 24-31.03.

FThis festival is run almost exclusively by John Moores University students, which also makes it extremely reliable in terms of evaluating the projects participating in the competition, because who else but a student will understand another student..

"SOLILOQUIUM" directed by Karolina Monwid-Olechnowicz received the Paper Bird 2023 award for the best experiment! Hearty congratulations to Karolina and everyone involved in the production, this success is the fruit of your joint work, for which words of appreciation are deserved. Particularly noteworthy here is the participation of Prof. Adam Sikora as the film's Artistic Supervisor.

"There is no peace of mind" directed by Karol Ulman comes back with a Special Mention in the category for fiction! Congratulations to Karol and we deeply believe that the appetite grows with eating and soon there will be more awards for the distinction, which undoubtedly deserve! Applause for all people collaborating on the project, especially for dr hab. Michał Rosa, who was the artistic supervisor of the film.

We are pleased to announce that on April 21. the feature debut of Michał Chmielewski, a graduate of the Kieślowski Film will be screened in the cinemas!

"Roving Woman" directed by Michał Chmielewski is a drama produced last year. It presents the story of a young and desperate woman, for whom the theft of a random car becomes the determinant of her further life.

Michał Chmielewski is the co-author of the script together with the actress playing the main role, Lena Góra, known, among others, from the series "King of Warsaw" directed by our lecturer, Dr. Jan P. Matuszyński.

This film is a Polish-American co-production, so the plot takes place largely in the American wilderness, where the main character travels - in search of thoughts, love and priorities. It is loosely inspired by the story of artist Connie Converse's mysterious disappearance in the 1970s.

The world premiere took place on June 13, 2022 during the "Tribeca" Film Festival in New York, while in Poland it was shown for the first time on September 13 last year, as part of the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia.

We encourage you to watch the film in Polish cinemas, where from April 21 you will be able to see the promising debut of last year's graduate of our School. GALAPAGOS FILMS is responsible for distribution in Poland.

The shooting of "Minghun", an international film project of Polish production, has begun. The director of the film is Dr. Jan P. Matuszyński, known, among others, from the films "The Last Family", "Let There Be No Traces" or the top series CANAL + "King of Warsaw".

From this place, we would like to congratulate the lecturer of the Kieślowski Film School to undertake another demanding and very ambitious project, which is undoubtedly "Minghun".

After the loss of his daughter, Jurek and his father-in-law Ben decide to perform the Chinese minghun ritual, i.e. marriage after death.

"Minghun" is a story about hope, love and searching for the meaning of life and what comes after it. It talks about the most important emotions and the existential limits of human experience. - we read on the website of the film studio Wonder Films, which produces the film.

Jurek, the main character, is played by Marcin Dorociński, while his father-in-law is played by Daxing Zhang, an actor who has participated in, among others, films entitled Fatal Passion and Charlie's Angels. Ewelina Starejki and Wiktoria Gorodeckaja are also part of the Polish cast.
